Sea & Sea YS-D2J Strobe

Sea & Sea YS-D2J Strobe

What is it?

Sea & Sea YS-D2J strobe is an updated version of their original YS-D2. The YS-D2J returned to Japan for manufacturing (which explains the J) and is reported to have even better reliability than the original model. The specs and features remain the same as the original which includes: guide number 32 (ISO 100, meter), 120-by-120-degree beam angle with diffuser, 5600K color temperature, 1.5-second recycle temperature with nickel–metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries, audible and visual confirmation of strobe modes and lighted rear panel. It has a 330-foot (100 m) depth rating and is fiber-optic cable II compatible. Two diffusers and red filters are included. It weighs 22 ounces (623 g) without batteries but underwater it weighs only 1.4 ounces (40 g) even with the four required AA batteries.

Benefits to your diving

The YS-D2J is powerful enough to illuminate a wide area, even under very bright conditions with plenty of natural sunlight. During macro photography manual mode can easily be selected and the guide number quickly adjusted as low as 1. And by attaching a diffuser the beam angle is increased while giving a soft and even light. The included red filter helps to avoid disturbing skittish creatures that might react to normal light. Also, the specs and features remain the same so current YS-D2 users won’t have any sort of learning curve when upgrading.
